Back to The Future: MeetTheBoss Interviews

by Adam Burns

shutterstock_56059063In this week’s round-up, we take a sneak peak at a couple of big interviews on the radar.

Listen up, shops. It’s not Christmas and we’re not buying any Santa hats, wrapping paper or faux-trees until at least the 24th December.

Fortunately, you’ll only see such over-hyped nonsense in the world of bricks and mortar. When it comes to digital – to generalise entirely – it’s about the here-and-now. It’s about personalisation. It’s about “…being authentic.” And you know what that means: No Christmas (at least, not in the middle of September).

While I definitely sourced that analogy from the recesses of my semi-Grinch outlook, the need for authenticity has stood the test of digital time for brands. But you don’t need to ask me.

Fortunately, we didn’t.

John Grant Interview

In the first of a six-part series, our Editor-in-chief, Adam Burns, put the question to John Grant – marketing maharishi and author of the 1999 best business book Marketing Manifesto – over at our sister digital marketing conference site, iStrategy.

In the run up to iStrat’s London event, we went back to the future with John to ask whether he thought his book has stood the test of time. We dropped in on his thoughts on the advertising industry today – and we had a bit of time to ponder “…who we are and…socially, how to express ourselves.”

Part two of the series is now alive and kicking too, so why not head on over to the Blog and get to grips with one of the best in the business. And as a nod to our future, we’ll be broadcasting John’s interview in full on MeetTheBoss over the next couple of weeks.

Ian Rowden, Group CMO, Virgin

And talking of the future – we’ll be going galactic next week. Virgin Galactic to be exact, with a two-part interview with Virgin’s Group CMO, Ian Rowden, in their London Pall Mall office.

Having met with Virgin Galactic’s President, Will Whitehorn, back in June 2010 – we couldn’t resist coming back for more (plus, we’ve got some serious fans in the office). From talking all things Virgin – to where the brand’s succession plan sits, and of course what’s new with the Galactic crew – the former Saatchi boss dropped some serious experience into the mix.

We’ll be launching part one of Ian’s interview next week, so watch this space. Ahem.

As always, for any suggestions on future interviews – or indeed roundtables – drop us a line in the comments below and we’ll get right back to you.
